"A new year reminds us that we can make a fresh start, but really, we can start fresh every day. If we miss making a shift in January, the whole year isn’t lost!”
Here we are at the threshold of yet another ‘New Year’ and our minds, in conditioned response, turn towards New Year resolutions. “I’ll do things differently this year!” But we hardly ever do…
Why do our goals and resolutions fail so often? Are the goals faulty? Are we negligent in our endeavour? No! No! The answer lies in the process of resolution.
We make resolutions about what we think we SHOULD do; the soul’s urgings very often do not find a place in our goals.
We focus too much on our lacks, flaws and weaknesses; the strengths of our soul are left unnoticed.
In our subconscious minds we are convinced that we are super-human and can change deeply ingrained patterns overnight; the Mastery of our souls is often not experienced due to our impatience.
This year instead of making resolutions let us make resoulutions….Yes, RESOULUTIONS…no, that was not a spelling error!!!! Resoulutions, unlike resolutions, focus on ongoing growth, where your daily life and your soul’s journey partner each other. Resolutions tend to bring to light our faults; resoulutions embrace our brilliance and enhance our inner power. Resolutions often lead to depression; resoulutions plant your feet firmly on the pathway of joy.
Question yourself: During 2006 did you frown on truths that were antithetical to your own? Did you try to find solace in the external because you could not muster up the dedication for the inner journey? Did you make enough space in your heart for a friend to grow and expand in her own unique way? Did you make fun of and reject those who preferred to walk on paths that you did not understand? Were indecision, self-doubt, and self-deception your regular companions?
Beloved friend, your affirmative answer to these questions need not be the cause of any guilt or shame. It is an effective tool to draw your attention to the fact that your resolutions have not worked. Toss them out…silence them forever….so that your soul can make itself heard in this New Year. When your soul speaks, you naturally and effortlessly become all-knowing, all-embracing, and all-powerful. Resoulutions embrace the vitality of the ego, while expanding the daily reach of the soul.
How do I make a resoulution, you ask. Each month look within and identify three of your most empowering strengths. Then let the partnership between your soul’s journey and your daily life begin. Each day, in ways big or small, your soul will bring to you opportunities to experience your strengths and share them with others. All you have to do is to be alert that you do not let these opportunities slip by you. By the end of the New Year, you will have successfully experienced the joy of 36 resoulutions!!!
But to make place for resoulutions, you have to throw out the old energy of resolutions. How? I cannot provide you with the full answer, but let me give you a few pointers which I hope will give you the essence. Why not call your friend whose truths you have rejected, and apologize for your ignorance, and begin to rebuild the friendship? Why not clear out the materialistic excess in your life by sharing it with another, instead of waiting for it to become old and torn and not useful to you? Instead of filling empty spaces within you by buying ‘adult toys’, why not enrich yourself by sharing even 1% of that value with a child who has never known the joy of a genuine toy? Instead of spending so many hours on ‘spiritual work’, why not love and heed your physical body which is failing because your emotional and mental bodies are out of balance due to issues lying unresolved?
This year let us make real solutions, which are soul inspired and spirit motivated.
May the joys of 2007 bring laughter to your eyes, a song on your lips, an embrace in your heart, and a purpose to your soul.
