The Summer Solstice….An Alternative Dialogue

"Whatever is dreamed on this night, will come to pass." Thus Shakespeare immortalized the summer solstice.
Yes, dear friend, this time of year is a special one, when buds become flowers and dreams become realities. With the Sun entering Cancer, its energy of emotional bonding, nurturing and love gently overcomes clinginess and the inability to let go. We, Cancerians, are not the only ones who hold on to the past. ‘Clinginess’ is a universal human trait that prohibits the alternative inner dialogue.
A well-known axiom represents the spirit of the solstice…As above, so below. All things in the universe move in cycles, returning empowered to their point of origin. It is this inevitability of the spiritual journey that makes June 21st such an important time for all. To return to our spiritual home, it is vital to leave behind the past of resistance, skepticism, and distrust.
The Sun represents the Universal Father within all. Is it any wonder, then, that Father’s Day comes so close to the solstice? Louise Kaplan said ‘fathers represent another way of looking at life- the possibility of an alternative dialogue.’ The Inner Father, yang, purusha, masculine ardor, prods, excites, and arouses. The sun’s blaze cleanses us of the past, impels us into the present, firing the dreams of our future into experienced realities.
The dynamic equilibrium between the sun and the moon remains paradoxically constant. Though the hours of summer light get longer and the nights shorter, the length of the day remains unchanged. What an apt metaphor of Life! Though internal dynamics keep shifting, our spirit remains the constant vehicle that contains all changes. The solstice urges us to understand that all that we experience through our consciousness is relative only to our reality. If the Inner Father gathers enough fire to scorch the debris of beliefs that have outlived their truth, the shift in consciousness will bring with it the summer of a new reality.
Energy takes the path of least resistance, and those changes that you resist the least will bring forth the earliest blossoms. Just as Dad taught us new ways of doing things, alternate approaches to old problems, Father’s Day can be seen as a symbol of reviewal of old paradigms, moving into a new vision.
This is truly the time of oneness as the Sun (Divine Father) moves into the sign of Cancer (Divine Mother). The duality of the physical experiment in action! Let us draw the full force of the direct solar energy to re-establish connection with the emotional and spiritual anchor within. Use its fire to sear away obstacles, remove the unwanted and purify yourself so that you manifest the god that you are. Celebrate the wonder of your Father Principle re-creating itself constantly. Give thanks for all that you have received, the energy of gratitude drawing to you the cornucopia of the coming summer. Dance around your inner fire singing loudly the popular ditty: ‘The greatest gift I ever had, Came from God; I call him Dad!’ |
