When God Forgets His Name

Sometimes I think God forgets who He is.
Maybe it happens when the world gets too loud:
when wars sound like thunder, and prayers sound like static.
Maybe he walks through the city,
in an old coat,
carrying a coffee he can’t quite afford,
feeling something heavy in his chest
and not knowing it’s called love.
Maybe he stands in line behind you at the grocery store,
watching you cradle a crying child,
and for a second,
he remembers.
I think when God forgets His name,
he becomes one of us.
He laughs at jokes that don’t make sense.
He feels lonely in a crowded room.
He misses people he hasn’t met yet.
And maybe that’s the point:
maybe He made this world
so He could experience
what it’s like to lose Himself
and find Himself again,
through our eyes,
our tears,
our tiny acts of kindness that no one sees.
When God forgets His name,
He becomes human enough
to understand why we keep calling His.
